The Four Freshmen: Different Strokes (1968)

I bought this album just because it looked like it was trying to be trendy.

I think it failed miserably.

The music will give you more than a chuckle or two. You’ll be saying to yourself, “I can’t believe how awful this sounds!”, but yet you’ll continue to listen to it–to try to understand why the four way past middle aged men decided to do Sly and the Family Stone’s, “Everyday People”.

Was it for sheer love of the song, or for the money?

I don’t know, but I do love the perfect 90-degree angle squareness of all of the songs presented on this album, but it is especially personified on the Chuck Berry penned tune, “Memphis”.

If you are a weirdo, or believe that you are living in an alternate dimension, this album may be for you, and I will say that I am proud to have it in my collection!
